Take a "Wonder Walk" this Spring!

As any caregiver knows when walking with a little tike, there are a million questions swirling in their growing and developing mind. Though a short 10 minute walk for an adult seems adequate, some children would rather drag that out for as long as possible, stopping every two feet to pose a question that hangs in the balance between common sense and astrophysics. Walks can be exhausting, and I'm not talking strenuous physical activity but the mental gymnastics one often performs is quite a feat, speaking as a mother myself.

In this adorable and very relatable short read, Little Johnny is a mirror image of some child, somewhere in the world that you probably know! With a short attention span and an endless supply of queries, Little Johnny is high spirited and catches Mom on the fly to deliver the right answer.

What makes this picture book endearing is the "we've all been there" feeling of solidarity the adult shares with the Mom character. And after 20 or more pages, as we watch Little Johnny snuggle in for the night, the adult reader is most likely empathizing with the Mother figure who is probably collapsing in the background and grabbing the Pino Noir.

A first publication for author Ilham Alam, we can see how this must have been a true passion project for her birthed from her own relationship with her child. We give a big kudos for capturing the moments she must treasure in a book that she is bravely sharing with the world. The sentiment behind the concept is felt and we wish her future success in more tales she may have to contribute to children's literature. We specifically appreciate the illustration of a family of brown skin tone-which looks like our family! We believe representation of all shades of melanin need to be SEEN in kid's lit, it helps children of color engage and relate more to scenes from their reality. Bravo on bringing more diversity in illustration!
